Pay Close Attention

"When someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time." -Maya Angelou
There are some people who are out here to steal your dreams, joy, and to just suck you dry. They will pretend to be your friend or love interest, so you won't see it at first. They will be sweet and fulfill your every need. They will appear to be the biggest blessing of your life, but honey that ain't the case! I know you've heard the phrase "Wolves in sheep's clothing", derived from Matthew 7:15. Matthew 7:15 says, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." (NIV)
What is a wolf in sheep's clothing?
I'm glad you asked. It's basically a person that isn't what they appear to be. They appear to be sweet on the surface, but underneath the surface, they hate your guts. Don't get it twisted, there are moments when we mask our feelings of sadness or hurt with a smile. The difference is that there is no malicious/deceptive intent in this case.
There will be suttle (and sometimes blatant) signs that show you who they aren't. It's best to take it in, and leave them alone.
“Manipulative people prey on our sensibilities, emotional sensitivity, and especially, our conscientiousness.  And sometimes they speak and act with such conviction, that we begin to believe them.  We can even start feeling responsible in some way for what we perceive to be their pain.-Dr. George Simon, author of In sheep's clothing: Understanding and Dealing with Manipulative People
You always have to have your guard up, be alert. Any sign of vulnerability will give them a ticket in. Stay prayed up!
